Gertrud Weinmeister comes from a family of musicians in Salzburg. She was educated at the Mozarteum Salzburg, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the Northern Illinois University in the United States of America.

Her apperances as soloist include concerts with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Staatskapelle Weimar, Staats Philharmonie Rheinland Pfalz and Bielefelder Philharmoniker among others.

As violist of the Trio Weinmeister she has concertised at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Philharmonie Köln, Musikhalle Hamburg, at the Concerthouses of Stockholm, Vienna und Brussels, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Athen Concert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall, as well as the International Beethoven-Festival Bonn.

Her activities as a chamber musician include performances at festivals such as Wien Modern, Schleswig Holstein Musicfestival, Schwetzingen, Musiktage Mondsee, Ravinia Festival USA and Lockenhaus Festival.
During her membership with the Hugo Wolf Quartett she took extensive concert tours throughout the United States of America and South America and recorded numerous CDs.

As solo violist of the Concentus Musikus Wien with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, she is also guest at the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Gertrud Weinmeister holds a professorship for viola at the University of the Arts Bern as well as at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
